Chengfang Liu Got Grant from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC)
Dr. Chengfang Liu got grant from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) for her proposal entitled “Performance Related Payment (PRP) among Rural Elementary School Teachers in Northwester China: Status and Impacts” (grant number 71473240). The overall goal of this proposed project is to help increase our understanding of the implementation status of this policy, and its impact, if any, on the wellbeing and effort of teachers. To achieve this goal, we will take advantage of our own elementary education survey dataset, a representative dataset that has tracked the same teachers in the same elementary schools as well as their students in rural areas of northwestern China for three rounds. We will first describe the implementation status of PRP policy over time and across regions, and then to evaluate the impact of PRP on teachers as well as the students they teach. We wish to provide empirically-based evidence to help government to better design strategies to improve the PRP policy, and thus to improve the compulsory education in rural China.
