"Fighting against Intestinal Worms to Improve Children's Health in Rural China Project" Evaluation Survey Successfully Completed

"Fighting against Intestinal Worms to Improve Children's Health in Rural China Project," hosted by Rural Education Action Program of the Center for Chinese Agricultural Policy, Chinese Academy of Science started its evaluation survey on June 21th, 2014. The project partners include National Institute of Parasitic Diseases, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (NIPD, CDC), Guizhou University of Finance and Economics, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture of Southeastern Guizhou, and Guiyang Nursing Vocational College, etc. After months of careful preparation, the project team developed the survey instruments and trained the enumerators/nurses/fecal testers in a rigorous and standardized way. Nearly 200 trained enumerators nurses/fecal testers participated in the baseline survey. In total, the survey tried to track the same 2240 children covered in the baseline survey, who are now 10-12 years old children and their headmasters, head teachers, and doctors from 112 townships in 7 counties in southeastern part of Guizhou. As in the baseline survey, this evaluation survey collected detailed information on basic socioeconomic status of children and their families and schools, children's health and academic performance, sanitary conditions, life habits, knowledge of prevention and treatment of intestinal worms, etc. By May 10th, the evaluation survey has been successfully completed. At present, related data entry, disposal and analysis are still proceeding intensely.
