Researcher Kaixing Huang published an article in China Economic Quarterly, analyzing the impact of the Three Gorges Project on economic development.

Recently, Researcher  Kaixing Huang, as the corresponding author, published an article in China Economic Quarterly in collaboration with Associate Professor  Wenshou Yan from Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Professor  Faqin Lin from China Agricultural University, Dr.  Yaxuan You from Peking University, and Master's student Xiaoning Hao from Zhongnan University of Economics and Law.

The study leverages the navigation of the Three Gorges Dam as a quasi-natural experiment to identify the causal relationship between shipping capacity and enterprise exports. The results indicate that an improvement in shipping capacity only affects the intensive margin of enterprise exports but has no significant impact on the extensive margin.

Heterogeneity analysis reveals that the primary impact is on enterprises located in the upper and middle reaches of the Yangtze River and large-scale enterprises. Mechanism analysis shows that the construction of the Three Gorges Dam enhanced Yangtze River shipping capacity, reduced export costs for enterprises, and had a more significant impact on enterprises with a higher dependency on water transportation. Additionally, the reduction in water transport costs increased the likelihood of enterprises exporting via waterways, thereby promoting enterprise exports.
