Professor Renfu Luo Awarded 2024 National Natural Science Foundation Special Project Grant

Recently, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) announced the review results for the "2024 Special Projects of the Department of Management Sciences of the NSFC: Mechanisms and Policy Research for High-Quality Agricultural and Rural Development." The project "Research on Mechanisms and Policies for Educational Support in Rural Areas," led by Professor Renfu Luo from School of Advanced Agricultural Sciences of Peking University, has been approved (Project Approval Number: 72442021) with a direct funding of 1.5 million RMB.

The key team members of the project include Associate Researchers Yingquan Song and Zhilei Tian from the China Institute for Educational Finance Research of Peking University, Associate Researcher Xiaochen Ma from the China Center for Health Development Studies of Peking University, and Associate Professor Lidan Lü from the School of Population and Health of Renmin University of China.

Moving forward, the project team will work closely, conduct in-depth research, and strive to provide strong support for the development of more scientific and effective rural education policies.

Introduction of the Project Leader

Renfu Luo is a professor at School of Advanced Agricultural Sciences of Peking University, a Ph.D. supervisor, a researcher at the Center for Chinese Agricultural Policy (CCAP), and an innovation leader under Jiangxi Province’s “Double Thousand Talent Plan.” He has long been dedicated to research in rural public education policies and human capital development. Professor Luo has led or participated in more than 20 national, provincial, and international collaborative research projects, including two General Projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and six projects from prestigious international organizations, such as the International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3IE), the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the UBS Optimus Foundation.

To date, he has published over 170 papers in top domestic and international journals, including Economic Research Journal, China Economic Quarterly , Management World , The Economic Journal, Journal of the European Economic Association, Journal of Public Economics, Journal of Development Economics, Demography, and BMJ. Among these, 107 papers have been indexed in SCI/SSCI, with 43 of them authored as the first or corresponding author.

Since 2014, Professor Luo has been continuously listed as one of the "Most Cited Chinese Researchers" by Elsevier for 10 consecutive years. From 2014 to 2020, he was included in the Social Sciences category, and from 2021 to 2023, he was listed under the Applied Economics category.
