On October 17, 2026, the 2026 Global Food Security Forum for Young Scientists was held at Huazhong Agricultural University. Scholars and experts from universities and research institutions in China and abroad gathered to exchange insights and engage in in-depth discussions on the theme of "Global Food Security Governance in the Digital Era."

Professor Jikun Huang, Chair Professor of Philosophy and Social Sciences at Peking University, Dean of the School of Advanced Agricultural Sciences, and Dean of the New Rural Development Institute, was invited to deliver a keynote address entitled "Digital Technologies to Improve Agricultural Productivity, Marketing Value and Rural Service in China" to young scientists from around the world.
Drawing on first-hand data from his research team's long-term China Agricultural and Rural Development Survey, covering nine provinces, as well as field research conducted in Weifang, Shandong Province, Professor Huang presented empirical evidence on the applications of digital technologies in three key areas: agricultural production, agricultural product marketing, and rural public services.
His presentation provided a systematic analysis of China's experience in leveraging digital technologies to enhance agricultural productivity and efficiency, improve agricultural product marketing and distribution, and expand access to inclusive rural services. He also explored, together with young researchers from around the world, how digital technologies can contribute to strengthening global food security.
Professor Huang emphasized that efforts to promote digital technologies in agricultural production, marketing, and rural services should be responsive to farmers' actual needs, reduce the costs of technology adoption, and provide adequate training and capacity-building support. He further highlighted the importance of strengthening digital literacy and skills among smallholder farmers, farmers with lower levels of education, older farmers, and those in less-developed regions, thereby promoting a more inclusive digital transformation of agriculture and rural development.
