Professor Jikun Huang Invited to Attend Nanjing Agricultural University’s 2026 Alumni Representatives Conference and Deliver a Keynote Speech

On June 13, 2026, the Nanjing Agricultural University (NAU) 2026 Alumni Representatives Conference and Alumni Development Forum was successfully held in Xi’an, China. More than 270 alumni representatives, distinguished guests, and university leaders from around the world gathered to renew their ties with their alma mater, discuss future development strategies, and envision a shared future for the university.

Professor Jikun Huang, Dean of the School of Advanced Agricultural Sciences at Peking University and Dean of the New Rural Development Institute, attended the conference as an invited alumnus from the Class of 1980. During the Economic Development Forum, he delivered a keynote speech entitled “Food Security, Rural Economic Transformation, and the Path Toward Building an Agricultural Powerhouse.”

Focusing on three key themes—food security, rural economic transformation, and the development of a strong agricultural sector—Professor Huang examined the fundamental drivers of China’s agricultural development. Drawing on extensive statistical evidence and longitudinal data, he systematically reviewed the growth of grain production and other major agricultural products, the transformation of the rural economy, and the principal driving forces behind China’s agricultural development since the launch of the reform and opening-up policy.

Professor Huang further outlined seven strategic pathways for building an agricultural powerhouse with Chinese characteristics. He also shared insights from more than four decades of research and practical engagement in agriculture, rural development, and farmers’ livelihoods, offering valuable perspectives on China’s rural revitalization and agricultural modernization.

The keynote speech was well received by the participants and stimulated lively discussions on the future of agricultural development, rural transformation, and food security in China.
