On May 10, Jikun Huang, Dean of School of Advanced Agricultural Sciences and Dean of New Rural Development Institute at Peking University, together with Dean Mi Zhou and faculty members and students from the College of Economics and Management at Shenyang Agricultural University, carried out a series of field investigations in rural areas of Zhangwu County, Liaoning Province.
The research team visited local cooperatives, cooperative unions, land contractors, land trusteeship households, and village administrators to gain insights into local experiences and challenges in grain production and high-value agriculture development. They also conducted in-depth discussions on future development prospects.

On May 12, Professor Huang was invited to deliver an academic lecture titled “Major Tasks and Key Research Areas for Agricultural and Rural Development during the 15th Five-Year Plan Period” at the Tianzhushan Economics and Management Forum hosted by Shenyang Agricultural University. More than eighty faculty members and students attended the lecture.
Focusing closely on the outline of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan, Professor Huang systematically interpreted the country’s strategic directions, major tasks, and primary development goals for the next five years. Centering on the theme of “accelerating agricultural and rural modernization and comprehensively advancing rural revitalization,” he integrated policy orientation with academic research and encouraged faculty members and students to conduct research on major, practical, and emerging issues. He also shared insightful perspectives on building a strong agricultural nation, deepening rural reform, and increasing farmers’ incomes.
The lecture not only deepened participants’ understanding of how academic research can better serve national strategic needs and remain rooted in the realities of rural China, but also provided valuable inspiration and guidance for disciplinary development, young talent cultivation, and future research project applications in related fields.
